The lodge

Built on the beach, shaped like the ships that never left it.

Beach Lodge is one of the very few places to stay in Swakopmund that sits directly on the sand. Fall asleep to the sound of the surf, wake to fog rolling off the cold Benguela current, and watch the Atlantic from your own balcony or patio — fifteen of our sixteen rooms have the view.

We are five kilometres north of the town centre in the quiet residential suburb of Vogelstrand, with endless beach in both directions for long, unhurried walks. The lodge's quirky ship-inspired architecture, warm service and honest food make it a favourite of honeymooners, families and corporate travellers alike.

Our rooms carry the names of ships lost along the Skeleton Coast — and of the diamond ghost town the desert took back.

Beyond the beach

Swakopmund is the adventure capital of Namibia.

Where the Namib dunes meet the Atlantic, the playground is enormous. Tell the front desk what you're after — we'll point you to the coast's best operators and help arrange it.

Tandem skydiving

Freefall over the place where desert dunes crash into the ocean — the most photographed jump in Africa.

Sandboarding

Lie-down or stand-up runs on the giant dunes just outside town. Wax, walk up, fly down, repeat.

Quad bike tours

Guided eco-routes through the dune belt — moonscapes, roaring dunes and desert wildlife.

Beach fishing

Cast for kabeljou and steenbras straight off the sand — some of the best surf angling on the coast.

Long beach walks

Step off our deck onto kilometres of open sand — north towards the Skeleton Coast, south to town.

After ±0.5 km turn left into Rosenquartz Street at the Beach Lodge / The Wreck light box, continue ±1 km into Plover Street, then turn left into Stint Street — a dead end. We're at the end of the street, right on the beach.
